OIST PhD Trifold Pamphlets

At a Glance
Design concept, layout and illustrations of print pamphlets promoting the PhD program at the cutting-edge Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology (OIST).
In Detail

OIST has been called with good reason the future of education in Japan or the MIT of Japan*. Amongst other things the institute exclusively uses English for its curriculum, has five Nobel laureates on its board of governors, half of the students are from outside Japan, interdisciplinarity is encouraged, has an ultra high 2:1 student to faculty ratio and everyone is a research associate no matter if student or experienced researcher. OIST is funded to the largest part by the Japanese government but with full administrative freedom. Further, the location on the beautiful tropical island of Okinawa makes it one of the most unique research destinations.
Call it where science and technology in subtropical paradise meets some of the world’s best lab-based problem solvers. Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University (OIST) is the best university you’ve likely never heard of in Japan. – The Japan Times

Design Work
For this project we followed the extensive visual identity guidelines of OIST. Particularly the meandering red paths which are derived from the coastal line of Okinawa have been used as branding element throughout the print item. Further we designed a selection of science related custom icons and charts. The pamphlet was produced both as English and Japanese language version.
Bento Graphics has also helped to facilitated the joint events of OIST with BioClub the first Open Biolab & Biohackerspace in Tokyo.
