TOKYO is an exclusive magazine for the Tokyo Metropolitan Government (TMG). We designed cover concepts, illustrations, diagrams, infographics, and the full editorial layout design.

In Detail

The TOKYO magazine covers larger Tokyo topics in society, culture, safety, technology, business, and others in English language. The magazine is handed out to official guests of the TMG and its governor, currently Yuriko Koike.

The cover design went through various stages with multiple design concept mockups and finally settled on a playful cityscape illustration. The aim was to blend city aspects, such as Tokyo landmarks, with iconic Japanese objects in an imaginative cityscape which would be enticing to the eyes of foreign guests.

The issue of the magazine spans 32 pages and includes several diagrams to illustrate technical topics. It further includes a large 2-page spread with visualized statistical data of Tokyo featuring charts and infographics.

The editorial layout design went through extensive proofreading and typographic fine-tuning of line-breaks, image captions, footnotes and biography sections. The magazine was printed in early 2017.
